On the key note, Edoardo Ongaro (Open University) talks about Public Administration, Context and Innovation: A Framework for Analysis, setting the very high standard followed by the highly selected 22 global participants, such as other masters at the Conference, including our organizer Yijia Jing, Evan Berman, M Shamsul Haque, and Andrew Podger, to name a few. Ongaro presents a comparative research frame in which context, cultural, political and administrative context plays a big and overarching role. It is linked to this insight as well as to Edoardo Ongaro´s recent book Philosophy and Public Administration: An Introduction -(available in Spanish soon) that I build up my paper.
Edoardo Ongaro´s key note speech
I make my contribution afterwards in Panel II
My work purpose is to contribute to bring political theory to the center of enquire in political science, administrative and comparative works. At Fudan conference I presented Innovation and Contexts: Philosophical Microfundations of Participation in Public Administration in China and the West. This endeavor to contribute to bring political theory to the center is the underlying aim of the more ambitious work I have published so far, and I was lucky enough to count with the help of Tian-cheng Zheng.
Using Max Weber as a reference to understand States and the regulation of technology I published a book covering over a century of administrative and corporate relations the United States and the European Union (1875-2002) [download awarded book here]. Now I use that knowledge and experience to learn from new perspectives, and opening the scope with the help of my co-author, Tian-cheng Zheng, trying to unravel differences between China and the West. Here I share yet unedited videos of the conference in Fudan [1 mn, 7mn.]:
Coauthor Tian-chen Zheng introduces himself, 1mn.
Philosophical Microfundations in China and the West, by Olga Gil, 7 mn. Thank you to my professors and supervisors Jonathan Hartlyn (UNC), Peter Lange (Duke), Colin Crouch (EUI) and Philippe Schmitter (EUI) to entrust me with the capacity and purpose to dare with comparisons!
I argue that Political Theory is a very useful area of knowledge to compare regimes and Political Theory should be placed at the center of explanatory models across the social sciences, in order to improve meaning and understanding about contexts in a new world of global power shifts and newly conceptualized silk roads.

This work in process has been grounded and very influenced by Frankopan, Ongaro, and Polsby´s recent books. Drawing on them, I propose a new method to think in comparative perspective from a philosophical and theoretical point of view. My presentation was commented by Evan Bergman, Edoardo Ongaro, M Shamsul Haque, Heunesuk Choi, Giovanni Fatore and Tippawan Lorsuwannarat. I am very grateful to all for the comments, and I am taking them into account as I work hard on the piece to be published in a scientific journal, my university preferring Q1 or Q2 in global rankings. Please, let me know if you have an interest to help me out with final proofreading for comments or publishing the final version in a Jornal you edit. We were lucky enough to have three editors of academic Journals in our 22-attendants Conference.

Olga Gil Conference at Fudan University on June 22nd, 2019, introducing the work Philosophical Foundations of Public Administration in China and the West. Very grateful to the Committee selecting the scientific works to be presented and honored to be there.
Predecing me in Panel I
Focusing on Innovation and Contexts we learned from very interesting contributions, covering South Korea, Indonesia and New Zealand, with Evan Berman (Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand). South East Asia was the next area covered, under the helm of M Shamsul Haque (National University of Singapore, Singapore), followed by Bin Chen (City University of NY), analyzing Crowdsourcing Participation for Social Innovation. Then, Ge Xin (Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, China), acted as discussant in a noticeable manner.
More to come
But these are not the only good pieces of the fish. I yet have to tell and show you about interesting hints about Fudan and how the neighborhood around Campus has taken a leap forward since my last trip four years ago. I also have to talk about the interview conducted in China, throughout the one-month research trip covering Shanghai, Guandong, ShenZhen, Hong Kong, Macao and the Hunai province, and my team, Tian-cheng Zheng, Ph.D, co-author, and the team making the trip possible helping out with logistics, translation, finance, communications and technology. More to come next!

My takes on #ideas, and #power East and West. Philosophical foundations of participation, State, Society and the Economy. And also ... emerging cities, smart cities, innovation, world economic development. What's new, what's on, what's we should be looking at cause it will be stablished trend... Or we should act collectively to avoid it before it becomes mainstream.
